Over a long career in retail sales, representing two major global companies (Sony and Philips) in sales and marketing, and in my short time role as a consultant, the terms partnership and win-win were extensively over-used and perhaps abused by many in the consumer goods industry. Whether you are a manufacturer, a retailer, or a 3rd Party Solutions Provider, you may have winced at hearing the terms or hopefully experienced a business situation in your career where the partnership worked, and where you were able to show your company a win-win result.

The cover story this month is about a win-win that happened for one of our member companies and developed over a long time into a strong partnership. Vivitech Solutions is an example of what the RLA preaches to our members, and we promote to companies who have not looked closely at their reverse logistics processes, if at all. The path of least resistance has led many companies to negotiate an allowance in lieu of returns for credit to reduce the related costs of shipping, handling, reconciliation, remarketing, etc. And that may be the right solution for some manufacturers while you are acquiescing control over your brand to an open liquidation marketplace.

But have you really looked at the complete financials and market implications involved? I always say from the stage you need a great finance person as a friend, and your company needs to have that person who can analyze the end to end costs. You may find a partner like Vivitech Solutions who can show you how the numbers can be drastically changed for the better. I am proud to say there are many companies in the RLA who have listened and learned to analyze their returns processes, and found the right partner who helps deliver a true win-win.

You will find more stories like this in our memberís corner featuring Paul Baum and the PlanITROI story, as well as Sarah Cade building a teaching business to repair, reuse and resell computer products the right way. Become an active member of the RLA, and your company will benefit as has happened for others. And write to me about any stories you have.

Thank you for your continued support as we revitalize the RLA and show you stories of success. These articles come from our member and user base. Join the RLA.
